Activities
The main activity of the AAJUW is to award scholarship to outstanding female college students. However, there are various activities to promote the cultural and educational well-being of the members as well as serving our community.
Such activities include the followings:
- The General Meeting and Scholarship Award Luncheon are held annually on the fourth Sunday of January which include lectures and entertainments.
- Newsletters are published periodically (bimonthly) that include recent and coming events, members’ activities, and many articles of interest to our member.
- The scholarship fund-raising activities such as bazaars are held annually selling books, baked goods, jewelries, arts and crafts.
- Lectures and work shops on topics in education, health and law are held as a service to our members and the community.
- Activities that promote the education and fellowship of our member include bus tours, picnic, hiking, arts and crafts classes, cooking demonstrations, museum visits, musical events and computer classes.
- To support our community and the world, we have been donating to the various organizations and funds based on the availability of our resources. For example, in the past we have donated to
American Association of University Women (AAUW),
Japanese American Cultural and Community Center,
Keiro Nursing Home,
Kobe Earth Quake Relief Fund and
Little Tokyo Library.
